We will either take La Plata Highway to Hesperus and then 160 on to Cortez (1 3/4 hours - 89 miles) or route 64 to Shiprock and then 491 up to Cortez (1 1/2 hours - 77 miles). Eat some lunch at a local restaurant and come home.
The ride will be about 3 1/2 hours, plus lunch.
